The student of Sochi Institute won a second place in weightlifting at the University Games in Taipei.

The XXIX Summer University Games took place in Chinese Taipei  from 19 to 31 August. Fourth year student of the Department of Physical Culture of the Sochi Institute (branch) Vyacheslav Yarkin represented RUDN.

The weightlifter took part in the competition in the weight category up to 77 kg. In total there were athletes from 12 countries. During the competition Vyacheslav was leading, but there was a slight mistake in his tactics, which did not allow to win the gold medal.

The medals were divided as follows:

1^st place – Kazakhstan

2^nd place – Russia

3^rd place – Canada

Vyacheslav’s awards:

• World Junior Championship (2016);
• Silver at the Summer Youth Olympic Games (2014);
•  Bronze at Junior championship of weight-lifting (2017)

 “One month before the University Games, I took part in the Tokyo Junior World Championship, where I improved my personal record that motivates me a lot. I had only a month for recovery and training before Taipei competition. In my opinion, silver is a worthy result,” the athlete says.

Now Vyacheslav has started to train hard for European Championships in Albania, which will be held in October.
